Waxes designed for contact with foodstuffs are produced in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice adapted by the company, including elements of Good Hygienic Practice. The manufacturing process takes place in the area specially designed and isolated for that purpose, and all supplies of the raw materials, additives and packaging used in the process are subject to a special system of control of receipt and release to production.
GMP requirements include testing of products for purity and content of particular substances. Another issue is the requirement to use special foodstuff colours in the production of waxes to be used for cheese coating. Such colours must be included in the list of colours admitted for use in foodstuffs, as stipulated in Directive 94/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 June 1994 on colours for use in foodstuffs (with subsequent amendments).
Products in this category are tested on a regular basis to check the content of heavy metals as well as the content of PAH and carcinogenic substances. In addition, the products are tested for compliance with the quality standards of the US Food and Drug Administration.
